Pop Quiz

  1. Define and give an example Normalizing: An act done by a person to feel in the presence of the past, to make a someone feel comfortable by thinking about things done before. I normalize in Taiwan when I eat Kellogs cereal for breakfast, becauseI used to eat cereal in Canada, making me feel comfortable although I am in Taiwan.
  2. What are three places something can go wrong in communication: In the encode, the sender may not be able to form clear sentence, through language or sound making barriers. Noise also makes communication difficult for reciever to hear. Lastly, the decoding may be be the original thought that the sender sent, while noise potentially have the ability to reduce being able to hear.
  3. Explain what the Iceberg Principle is: The Iceberg Principle is a form of literature that gives few information about the characters, plot, or background of the story. The idea of the principle is to allow the reader to infer about the story to understand and to guess what the situation of the story is with as little information given. It also startles the reader, for there may be several different interpretations to the story because nothing is truely clear.
  4. Provide an explanation and example of Suspension of Disblief: In stories or movies, there are times where a situations that deals with suspense is portrayed to be real, but in reality, it would be physically impossible to have completed such actions without a flaw or such. Suspension of Disbelief shows the reader that only in the story, can this certain task be done, but in reality it cannot. In most Sci-Fi movies, there will be plenty of characteristics that show Suspension of Disbelief, where futuristic robots look, act, and react like humans. However, these robot will not be walking around in a long time, we do not have the technology to form such droids, but for the movies' sake and the beauty of Capitalism, it is portrayed.
  5. What was the metamorphosis in the The Metamorphosis, why?: The metamorphosis was the changes the the family needed to make in order to better suit the functions of the family or lifestyles for they had a giant cockroach living with them. The Samsas were poor, they needed money, and because Gregor no longer provided them with the funds the faily needed, they had to get jobs and work again. Due to the fact that the Samsas son was a giant cockroach, they needed to normalize and get used to that fact. However, it was impossible to live with a giant cockroach, thus they needed to make decisions to benefit the entire family. Their final decision was to kick Gregor out, after a long hesitant days and longsuffering. Before all this, the Samsa were quite happy and money was sufficient, but now they changed all the way to being poor, needed jobs, and most importantly, giving up on their own son.

30 minutes of TED, changeing your...speeches

Identifying PATHOS, ETHOS, and LOGOS

In this persuasive speech, Micheal Sandel explains why democratic debate is lacked in the modern world. He bases his idea on the ideas of Aristotle ~ETHOS~, who wrote questions of justice and morality. He uses a famous thinker, especially on who has proven to be a genius in history. His point was pure logical, he made the audience answer questions that were logically incorrect, by giving them the true definitions of justice and morality ~LOGOS~. Further on, he gives examples and reasons, such as his flute example and his golf example. Especially in the golf example, he uses emotion to ask the audience what they think about the letting Casey Martin, a professional golfer, use a golf cart while competing ~PATHOS~. Basically, he is using real life events to persuade the audience and letting the audience speak for themselves and logically proving them wrong afterwards.
Using statistics, Graham Hill persuades fellow Americans that less equals more. You wouldn't understand at first, but he explains logically that people need things that they need and will use a long time. Also, if you don't buy that much space, it gives you more time, a great way to save money, and produce less pollution ~PATHOS~. He himself created a project where people can learn how save and reduce space so that we can have more needed items ~ETHOS~. He has a 420 square feet apartment in Manhattan, but has ten rooms in total, from fold out beds to extendable tables that can seat ten people. Logically he explains how we can reduce the amount of things we have while increasing happiness ~LOGOS~.
Due to the fact that he is a mathematics genius, Arthur Benjamin persuades us to change from the mathematics standards, calculus, to the more useful statistics and probability that are used on a daily basis ~ETHOS~. Calculus is not a useless subject, some careers do require calculus; but normally statistics and probability are the essentials to the economics, data analysis, and especially towards modern day life, because probability and statistics are what the world needs and to be able to understand itself ~LOGOS~. In addition, statistics and probability can be very fun, it is the mathematics of games, gambling, analyzing trends, and predicting the future, if you dominate at that, then you could probably win most of all the games you play ~PATHOS~.

Before and After Speech Class

During the first steps in becoming a professional speaker, many of the speeches were terrible. They were supposed to be terrible, not that I purposely made them unappealing, but it was the way of the Webb. However, after writing a few outlines, speaking in front of many peers, teachers, demonstrating, informing, and persuading the audience, improvement showed. I used to always hold a note card to feel more comfortable, and to reminded myself of what I had written in my outline; but now as I began aiming for perfection, I felt comfortable in front of audiences as long as I knew and made it clear to the audience of what my purpose was. Giving zingers to end the speech was a favorite part of the speech process, clear senses of the ending had to be done correctly. Comfort was a problem, but engaging to the audience, keeping them occupied and attracted was another. Through the days of speech class, knowing not only how to write an interesting speech was a serious matter, but also knowing how to grab the focus of the audience to the main points, the idea, was also very important. Variations in tone, giving emotional intonations are crucial and achieved throughout the process of speech perfection. Enhancing hand gestures made clear of what the points are and helpful to attract attention. Now, through practice and aim, the target has been shot down; all the qualities of a beautiful speech has been absorbed in a mind that knows perfectly how to use these qualities. The overall improvement is a wide range, from the terrible murmurs in the beginning to the well-achieved speeches towards the end. Without knowing these skills, and how to use them would have been a great loss in a professional speaker.

Topic of Persuasion (2)

For//Against
Issue: Should women have rights?
The Debate

Women should have rights because they are humans too. Believe or not, but women may be smarter, more energetic, and efficient than men. Some men are lazy and according to recent scientific studies, women are more mature and more independent than men. Although women do make mistakes, because they are humans, most women can solve situations quicker than men. Women have more endurance than men according to scientific research. If a male and a female begin training at the same time, the female will win long races and competitions. The point is, women are just as equal as us, they are compatible work partners and they get the job done.

Women cannot be as equal as men! Certainly women can be better than men, but men should are generally the ones who are working and supporting the family. Should you let women have rights and make the men feel as if they are useless? Both men and women are equal, why should the men feel more depressed than women. Women are less productive when they have their feminine issues, they become vulnerable once they are caught off guard. Men are visualizers, they make sure that all the things in the company, country, or community is perfect.

Issue:Should Marijuana be legalized?                                            [not suggested]
The Debate

Marijuana as you may have known, is a illegal. However, marijuana can be used for several medical purposes. Furthermore, people have the right to make choices for themselves as long as they do not harm others around them. According to the Marijuana Legalization Organization, they state that the government are wasting lots of time and money by making laws and prohibitions that are not working. For example, when the government banned alcohol, it was a disaster, why should you think that banning marijuana will be effective? As mentioned earlier, Marijuana is sometimes marijuana is used for medical purposes, it can help people to heal and less people that can be healed with marijuana can survive. Shouldn't we support those whom have hope so that they will live?

This is an outrage! If any way you would think that marijuana prohibition will not be effective, you are thinking to the wrong direction. It is not about what the people enjoy, it is about the prices of the drug or alcohol. Marijuana is more expensive than alcohol, thus it would be logical that people buy alcohol more than drugs right? Alcohol prohibition did not work because so many people are buying alcohol, because it is cheaper. However, if the government wants to prohibit marijuana, then their must be a reason, they would not bring a case into court if it was not a big issue. How did marijuana become a big issue? Perhaps some marijuana takers are causing havoc in a few areas or more marijuana are found in peoples' homes.

Issue: Hygiene is important and should be 'shared'
The Debate

The government needs to prevent serious viruses and diseases to people of the nation. Hygiene is getting worst, according to the recent studies, more and more people are not healthy. Although there are several reasons why this is occurring, personal hygiene and cleanliness can often prevent diseases and harmful viruses. People these days feel as if they can depend on the doctor for all their diseases. However, people need to learn how to take care of themselves and stay clean. There are not enough doctors to help everyone in a community. For example, I waited for three hours just to visit the doctor. We need more awareness of personal hygiene.

Personal Hygiene is not that important. The government has more important issues to deal with, such as the economic debt and many other issues. Supporting awareness of cleanliness is a waste of time. Plus, haven't we all learned about personal hygiene in school? Also, isn't what the doctors jobs are for? To help people that are sick to feel better and heal them. We already have and know what we need to know. Furthermore, the people can heal themselves by taking medicine and presciptions. There is no need to waste time and money on this issue.

Topic of Persuasion

FOR // AGAINST

Issue: Do schools have to right to search students' lockers?
The Debate

In this case, the students will not bring any sort of dangerous weapons, drugs, and other hazards to school. The lockers technically belong to the school anyways, and the lockers' purpose is to put papers, extra uniform, or the student's bag into the locker. Lockers are not meant to act as a permanent storage place; it is a temporary storage while the student is in school, so there is should not be any particular reason to leave your things in the lockers. With locker checkups, students will learn to be more honest due to the fact that we can find out if they have in their lockers.

Why should the teachers have the right to search lockers? Is there a policy in the handbook and the school rules that says so? If the students have paid in their tuition that the lockers are now in their possession, then they would also have the right to ask for their privacy. It's a matter of invasion of privacy; the lockers were entrusted to the students, thus, giving them the 'key' to the lockers. Furthermore, the government owns the land of a nation, but they cannot charge into your house freely, they need a search warrant. The same concept applies this issue: The teachers and the staff own the school, but the students own their lockers.

Issue: Should physical force a justifiable method to punish children?
The Debate

The fact that in most countries of the world, physical punishments to children is efficient and quite useful to teach children. Children should automatically learn to behave by themselves, but some children are too naughty to even listen to the parents talk to them. These children have made their parents so angry that they would want to beat them. How many parents would want to beat their child for no reason? It is the child's fault, he or she has done something very wrong, and they will learn and remember their mistake through scars and bruises harsh punishment.

Why does the government have laws against child abuse, because they do not want any child to get hurt. There must be other ways to teach your children how to behave properly, there is not much need to beat your child. I believe the children will understand by themselves if you, the parent, will teach them in a way that will not make them feel too bad. Variations in tone, how you say it, and the right concepts in which the children will agree too is a much more civilized way to teach them. After all, you are setting them an example so that they will learn to be righteous men and women with educated concepts such as, basic manners like 'Please' and 'Thank You'.

Issue: Should governments negotiate with terrorists?
The Debate

Through history, the world has known that people can change through words, and the right words at the right time. It is true. If we can talk to these terrorists, we can help they change and help them to think about what they are about to do. The world must have a common trait to bring peace, terrorist negotiations is where we can start. These terrorists are humans too, we cannot just shoot them down if they are terrorists, we must act like the civilized people we are and help them to think about their suicide. If it is all about killing each other, then what has the world become?

Negotiations with terrorists cannot proceed. Goodness sake! They are humans, it is true, but they are terrorists too! They will kill us even before we try to talk to them. How will we negotiate with them anyways?   We need to react fast and quickly when a terrorist attacks, and  know how to deal with the damage. Negotiations are a quite slow process, but people can be evacuated before the bombs trigger, and our military can buy those people some time. Although it may seem unnecessary, but one person dead is at least better than a thousand innocent lives dead. The key is to react fast, instead of slowly advancing towards them and giving them a choice, those terrorists have made their choice.

Fallacious Speeches--Improving English One Fallacy at a TIme

Since the Day I was born, I was destined to be the greatest person alive, and I am. However, today I will help you to fulfill your destiny as becoming the greatest citizens alive by electing me as your responsible president (sentimental appeal). This way, your destiny will be fulfilled and everyone will be happy, and happy citizens equals good economy, and good economies equal to happy governments, and a happy government equals...Well, let's just say that no one will die (slippery slope). There are basically three reasons why you should vote for me: I am smarter than the other candidates, more fun, and simply better than them (stacked evidence).

First, I am smarter than everyone, so I will be better at speaking in front of people (non-sequitor). Smart presidents make smart choices, and only smart people will vote for the smartest president (bandwagon). Unlike Emily, I have a higher IQ than her, plus who wants women as a president (faulty casualties)? Second reason why I am the best is because I am a fun and funny guy (stacked evidence). David on the other hand, believes tough justice and luck is all the world needs. So, he should not be president or he'll torture us with his boring, unappealing dull comments (ad hominem). If you vote for a fun president like me, then the whole world will e fin and vice versa (circular reasoning). Last but not least, I am simply better than everyone (stacked evidence). I am better because I was born with this talent, everyone admires this talent and they praise me due to it. Also, if people don't admire me being better than them, then something really bad will happen to them. Just ask Nicolas (scare tactics)! I am a very spiritual person, so believe me; something will happen (scare tactics). And seriously, I don't like to see people getting hurt, especially people whom I care about (sentimental appeal). Just vote for me and nothing will happen (either/or; using authority instead of evidence). So my point is: Better people have more responsibility than other people (faulty analogy).

You have now learned why you should vote for me and the three reasons why. I am smart, funny and better to vote for. With me, the better candidate, I will make you all happy, and again, happy citizens equal good economies, and good economies, equals to a happy government, and etc. (slippery slope). Lastly I want to end with a saying: With great power comes great responsibility. I've got the power, and the responsibility!

Rhetorical Fallacies

Pathos
In this example of an Emotional Fallacy, Bridgestone tells us that without their tires, many accidents such as road kill will occur. However, for those pet/animal lovers they do not have a choice. Would they spend less money on a normal tire, or have an expensive, safe on turning tire that reduces the rate of road kill. How can they refuse to buy Bridgestone tires, even when the animals in the video especially screams to indicate that humans are killing them? Think about it, what organism dies because of the tires? The driver is the deadliest weapon.
Ethos
This example of an Ethical Fallacies uses John McCain--a candidate of politics--explain why you should vote for him because he thinks that health care is important. He says that health care needs to be affordable and that the people need the care that he is about to offer. This guy is using his position of being a politician to lure those in need of health care to vote for him, that is unfair. He thinks that the people of the United State of America only needs health care in order to survive. That is why he isn't the president today.
Logos
With a hint of Ethos, this advertisement tells us the brain is like a ripe banana. Why? People say that TV will rot our brains, but no, it softens the brain just like a ripe banana. If your brain is softened, then let's just say that the people of Hulu has done their job, because now, you can't stop watching TV. The ad then says: What's so bad about watching TV when you can watch anytime, anywhere, for free!? So, their point is: Why not watch TV? It's for free, you can watch it anywhere, anytime on Hulu, and  it softens the brain. First of all, what does softening the brain have to do with watching TV? Secondly, I tried Hulu, it's not available in Taiwan. Lastly, isn't using electricity to watch TV using money? So it's not for free.

I'm Going Through Changes

After careful consideration into deciding whether the first of second speech to do for the final of demonstration speeches, I have came up with the best decision: The first one.

In this speech I taught the audience How to Build a kite and ways to decorate it. It was an awesome speech, but I am going to make it better. There were many minor modifications, but here are the three main alternations
1. In the introduction, I do not have a motivation. Thus, I included one after I said what I am going to do today: Kites are usually flown on windy days. It is a great activity to do with someone and a way to make a use out of the windy weather. Trust me, I've experienced it, Back where I come from, It is windy everyday and there wasn't much to do, so I flew kites all the time.
2. To indicate movement from my last body to the conclusion, I have inserted a rhetorical question: So what have you learned today?
3. In the first presentation of this speech, I included a little description of a crappy day. However, it did not refer back to the introduction, thus I have rewritten a more pleasing and relevant ending: Knowing this, when it is windy outside and you feel bored, grab a dew materials and build a kite with someone. Trust me, it will be the best day of yor life.

So there you have it, the only three main changes that will enhance my speech.

Demonstration Analysis

In the first speech, I taught How to Build a Kite. I basically did a very good job on this speech; it was a successful speech that ended with the kite failing. I taught the audience fairly well, but I had no enhancing tone, visual aids, and not much eye contact. I think that this was the speech that I improved most on, and the speech that I practiced well on. I had no problem saying the materials, the steps on how to build a kite, and the alternatives. This speech was overall, an improving, demonstrative speech needing more tone. However, knowing the fact that it can be perfectly achieved, it needs more work on tone, and attraction.

The second speech which was a classic origami demonstration, was a speech that was distracted and not as improving as the first one. I needed to practice more, I needed to connect the conclusion to the introduction. This speech was a bit rusheed, but if practiced, it would be perfect. Body language was sufficient in this speech, and in addition, it produced eye contact among all the audience, instead of the teacher. This speech was a bit long, it needs minor modifications, and the more practice needed. Overall, this speech was a complicated, quick speech with exceeding amounts of interactions with the audience. I especially loved the parts in which i asked "right?", and it felt professional.

The Significance of TED

TED is a website known for its ingenious speakers of several topics. Therefore, we can learn very much from these absolutely brilliant speakers. They tend to vary their tone and speak very naturally in all of their speeches. With "TED speaking" to consider, hopefully we can learn very much about how to speak in front of thousands of people. Malcolm Gladwell for an example, is one of the brilliant speakers, he talks with a naturally flowing voice and speaks with various intonations. How he does this is by simply speaking like he is actually discussing with the audience. He is also a humorous person and uses hand gestures beautifully. Although I notice that he makes a few mistakes and says "uh" or "um" sometimes, he quickly goes back to the topic right after he apologizes. That is something that I should keep in mind. I also need to learn from Arthur Benjamin which is also a great speaker that interacts with the audience. He asks for volunteers and chooses his volunteers. Hopefully I would not need any volunteers, but when I do, I would ace interactions due to learning from him. TED is a wonderful website filled with intelligence and education.

How to Make a Paper Iris

Purple Paper Iris

Materials
1. A piece of A4 paper (color, texture and pattern can vary)
2. Scissors
3. Coloring Utensils

Steps
1.     Take a piece of A4 sized piece of paper, then take one of the corners and fold it to the other side of the paper to make it align with the opposite side.
2.     The piece of paper should look like a trapezoid. Then take the scissors and cut the bottom half of the paper to form a perfect square. Make sure you do not cut the other side of the paper, only cut the side that does not overlap with the folded area of the paper.
3.     Now with the perfect square, fold the square across in half to form a triangle. Fold the triangle again to make a line dent in the middle of the first folded triangle.
4.     Unfold the second folded triangle and you should see a line in the middle of the first folded triangle. Turn your triangle to make the 90 degrees corner face yourself.
5.     You should have a gap on either side of the triangle, so push your finger into the gap (you may hold down the bottom of the triangle if it helps) and bring the gap up, then fold the top corner down. Do this to the other gap too.
6.     You should have a square with four flaps after you have folded the two gaps. Take one of the flaps (it should have a gap in the middle) and poke into the gap, then fold the top of the gap down. Do this for all four of the gaps.
7.     Once you have done that, then you should have a diamond, kite looking shape that has eight flaps.
8.     If you have done this correctly, you should have a pocket on one side and if you flip to the other side, then there is no pocket. If you flip through all of the sides, you should see a pattern: pocket, no pocket, pocket, no pocket…
9.     Now have one of the pocketed side opened (the other sides can be folded down) and fold both flaps that are on the top on either side of that pocketed side into the middle. Make sure you cover the pocket. Then unfold the flaps, you should see two lines that intersect the line that the pocket has made.
10. Lift the pocket up and fold the two flaps that are on both sides inward to form a three perfect triangles (one triangle that is sticking up, and two triangles that point outward, one of the two triangles can be split), it might look like a spaceship. Fold the triangle that is sticking up down to cover the triangle that is split. Repeat steps 9 and 10 until all the pocketed sides look like the spaceships.
11. Now that all the pocketed sides are folded down, open the side that does not have a pocket. Once you have done that, fold the two flaps (that are in the opposite direction of which the small triangle is pointing towards) on either side of the non-pocketed side into the middle. Do this step for all four of the non-pocketed sides
12. The folding in step 11 may be difficult to fold, if so, then you are doing the step correctly. If the diamond shape now is thin, then it is correct.
13. Now twist the top side of the non-pocketed side downward to make the petals. Repeat step with all four of the non-pocketed sides.
14. Now you have a beautiful paper Iris!
Alternatives
Bouquet
1.     You may twist the petals in different ways, such as twist two of them instead of four to spice up the petals of the Iris.
2.     You can also color your Iris to match the real Iris's hues.
3.     Again, the color of your paper does not have to be white, I would recommend purple colored paper.
4.     Lastly, you can assemble many Irises in a bouquet of flowers.

Domination of Demonstration #2

1. How to make a paper Iris
Making a paper Iris is not easy, it requires patience and demonstration skills. The paper Iris is actually quite hard to make, in fact, it is so hard, that everyone who sees you fold one will be astonished and filled with jealousy. To fold a paper Iris, you need a piece of paper that is a square. Also, the paper Iris is a beautiful piece of art that everyone enjoys. I would just teach the audience how to fold one correctly and tells them that it is useful when it comes to girls.

2. How to mix your own salsa
Salsa is a very delicious Mexican sauce that is glorious and filling. I would teach the audience how to mix their own salsa to make it taste awesome. The ingredients I would use would be tortillas, tomatoes, some mexican spices, onions, garlic, chinese parsley, and chilly. Salsa would be a great topic to demonstrate on the cafeteria. Also, it will be delicious to go with the lunch that the audience has. Salsa is also one of my favorite three sauces: ranch and ketchup.

3. How to make finger puppets
If you have children or any younger siblings at home, knowing how to entertain them by using finger puppets is a great way to satisfy them. Finger puppets are very fun to make, they are quite custom and full of colors, perfect for a youth. They are also easy to make, just add a few colors to the wrapping on your finger and you will love it. Finger puppets can also be a fantastic way to improve story telling.

4. How to make a delicious frozen berry salad
First of all, this dish is not a salad containing green vegetables, it is a mixture of various frozen berries and flavored powder. Berries are one of my favorite fruits to eat, they are sour and savory. However, when all of these beautiful tastes are combined within a chilled environment eaten in summer, they taste like transcendent tingles of tang. Pure deliciousness will engulf your stomach, addiction will vanquish your patience, and contentment will no longer exist.

5. How to cut fruit—the right way
Have you ever tried so hard to cut a fruit, but never seemed to turn out great? Of course you have, people in the modern times do not know how to cut fruit to make the juices stay and tastes flourish. I will be demonstrating how to cut three different fruit and some alternate ways to serve it. Knowing this ability will help the audience understand that food and how to serve it is important in every meal. Especially when fruit is the most important part of the meal.

How to Build and Decorate a Kite

Materials
Kite that we are going to make
1.      Strong straight sticks of 50cm and 25cm (make sure they are long enough to cover the newspapers or the construction paper).
2.      Construction paper 50cm x 25cm (does not need to be exact)
3.      Newspaper—if construction paper is not available.
4.      Regular string or fishing line 100m (recommended), tape, or glue
5.      Safety scissors.
6.      Pencil or cylinder object—for the handle.
7.      Coloring utensils
 Steps
1.      Take each of the 50cm and 25cm sticks, and place them on top of each other to form a cross.
2.      Use glue, tape, or the string (recommended) to connect the sticks together in the middle. Make sure that the sticks are held in place and tied firmly together. Nudge them to test durability.
3.      Take the construction paper and use the scissors to cut them into the diamond shape of the stick cross. Do not leave any blank spots or the air will go through the paper. Do the same for the newspaper if construction paper is not available.
4.      Stick the cross to the diamond shape construction paper or newspaper with tape (recommended) or glue.
5.      Take the string and cut two pieces of string that is 15cm long, and then cut two pieces of string that is 12 cm long.
6.      Tie the two 15cm string to the 50cm stick’s two sides with tape, glue, or string (recommended).
7.      Tie the two 12cm string to the 25cm stick’s two sides with tape, glue, or string (recommended).
8.      Tie the four strings that are tied to the kite together, and tie about 40 to 50 meters of string to the place where the four strings are tied together.
9.      Wrap the 40 to 50 meters of string around the pencil or the cylinder object for the handle.
10.  Now you have a functional kite!
 Alternatives
1.      Use the coloring utensils to color or draw a picture onto the kite.
2.      Functional decoration: Cut three to five thin strands of newspaper or construction paper—about 30cm x 2.5cm and stick them to the bottom of the kite using glue or tape.
 Tips and Concerns
1.      Remember that the 50cm stick is up and down, and the 25cm stick is right and left. Tip for step 1
2.      A simple double knot is enough to hold the sticks in place. Tip for step 6, 7, and 8.
3.      Be careful when handling with safety scissors. Tip for step 3
4.      Glue and tape are necessary, but not recommended. Tip for step 2, 4, 6, 7, and 8
5.      For Alternatives, keep things simple, do not add weight to your kite or else it will not fly.

Domination of Demonstration

Iris, but in reality
1. The first topic is how to make a paper Iris. I learnt how to make one because I wanted to make Angela feel jealous about me. First, the basic materials are paper, hands, and a ruler if nesseccary. Second, You will need to fold the paper correctly as I told you. Third, and the last step is to make sure that you have the right curves for the petals. You can also customize your flower by coloring it or folding it in the desired color. I wanted to do this speech because flowers are a very useful way to get a girlfriend, and it helps calm myself down (at least for me).

2. Another topic is the some ways you can tie a tie. If you know how, then you can laugh at other people who don't know because it is extremely easy. I would know how to tie these tie in these ways by tying them in the speech and showing the audience that it can be done easily. Soon everyone will know how and it would be interesting for me too. I can also demonstrate on how to tie a bowtie, just to crack things up. First, I teach the audience on the first way to tie a tie: the windsor, the half-windsor, or the four-windsor. Then I can teach about the other ways to tie a tie. Tie are very formal, and it can help people to dress formally.

3. Another "how to" is how to make jelly—the easy way. Jelly is a popular pastime enjoyed by children of all ages. Although it can be dangerous eating it, it is very fun when it comes to making it. First, the ingredients are jelly powder, it can be  bought in any grocery store, many bowls, water, and sugar (sometimes the sugar may be already added in the powder). Second, follow the instructions written on the back, which is usually adding water and the powder to a bowl and stirring it until the powder becomes a solution. Following, place the liquid in the refrigerator for about a day. The powder has probably provided the color for the jelly so you do not need to worry about it. Jelly is delicious and contains caffeine, which can be enjoyed in the class.

4. The fourth topic is how to make a kite and successfully fly it. It is a plain a simple task which can be done anywhere. You just need a few materials and combine them into a kite. Finally you can fly it outside the classroom and finally achieve something in your life. Also, kites are very fun to play with, now that Taiwan has entered the season of autumn, and kites are colorful!

Didn't expect that did ya?
5. The last topic is how to read a compass. Due to technology, discovering new places has become easy, but finding your way back is not. Compasses, to my understanding is not very easy to read at all. There are several different types of compasses which are read differently. Also, if you do not want to go north but the compass is telling you that, then there is a way to decipher the compass. I was once a boy scout, and compasses are the most interesting subject beside tying knots.

Four Sites on Elena Durón Miranda

Site 1
From this original site of Ms. Miranda on CNN, I learned of the existence of this person and the issue in Argentina that is being treated. In Argentina, children younger than three years of age are picking up garbage with their families to sell for profit or for food. This issue, currently in Argentina has broke Ms. Elena Durón Miranda's heart. Thus reacting to this, she has formed a charitable child championing program called PETISOS (Prevention and Eradication of Child Labor SOS) in Argentina dedicated to help these families and it's children to grow and provide them an education. Anyone in the community may sign up to aid these families to teach or to  give them food to eat. Furthermore, Elena's team tracks children in the garbage dumps to observe his or her work habits in order to teach them correctly and without knowing how they would react to their teachings. However, Elena has conducted a trust with these families by helping them find the trash they need. She is a compassionate person and always will be willing to help everyone, she is a true hero.

This website indicates the importance of Ms. Miranda's presence in the hearts of young Argentinean children. It shows that not only people in Argentina completely adore Elena, people around the world are noticing her too. These site persuades people to vote for Ms. Miranda for the next top ten heroes in the CNN Heroes. I have also found out that Ms. Miranda is a psychologists, that explains the observations of children. She is so precise and accurate when it comes to decision making and luckily she had a glimpse of the hardships these children must face. Overall, most people who knows Ms. Miranda is devotional to her and will support all her decisions.

Site 3
This site demonstrates and shows most of the economic issues in Argentina. Although it is irrelevant towards saving and helping children, it is helpful to know this information because we want to know why the families in Argentina are so poor. Ms. Miranda is a psychologists, so hopefully she understands the difficulties that the families are going through. Also, Argentina's Gross Domestic Product is only about 10,000 US dollars. Furthermore, this site talks about other issues that include freedom, economical loans, and times where Argentina's economy fell the most. With this information, Ms. Miranda and I can find ways to help the people in Argentina.

Site 4
This site provides information of the child rights in Argentina. This is crucial to the speech because what if Ms, Miranda's actions were considered kidnapping in Argentina (very unlikely, but for goodness sake). Although most of the parents and the family members agree to letting their children be taught by PETISOS. Also, Argentina's child laws are based on United Nations child rights. In addition, the laws state that it is voluntary for children to have an education. Elena has just helped free these children from juvenile hall and brought them a better life. In the end, the PETISOS will be able to help lots of children in Argentina and they will most definitely make a change to this world.
